Terms & Conditions

Last updated: 13 December 2025

These Terms & Conditions (“Terms”) apply to all work carried out by Handyman Help Limited (“we”, “us”, “our”) for the customer (“you”, “your”). By booking work, accepting a quote, or allowing work to start, you agree to these Terms.

1) Definitions

  • Estimate: an approximate price based on information available at the time.
  • Quote: a fixed price for a defined scope of work.
  • Variation: any change to the scope, specification, access, or conditions after a quote/booking is agreed.

2) Scope of work

We carry out handyman, property & garden maintenance and home improvement work. This may include (but is not limited to) repairs & snagging, decorating, fencing, shed repairs, EPDM rubber roofing (flat roofs & outbuildings), and pothole/tarmac patching (where suitable).

Any work not explicitly included in a quote or booking confirmation is excluded. If additional work is requested, it will be treated as a Variation.

Pothole repairs (important): Pothole/tarmac repairs are typically patch repairs. Longevity depends on the condition of the base/substrate, drainage, weather, and traffic loading. We cannot guarantee against re-failure caused by underlying movement, weak substrate, water ingress, or factors outside our control.

3) Quotes, estimates & variations

  • Quotes are based on the information available at the time (including photos, measurements, site conditions, and access).
  • If the actual conditions differ from what was reasonably expected (e.g., hidden damage, rotten timber, failed substrate, unsafe electrics, water ingress, previous poor workmanship), we may need to revise the quote or propose an alternative solution.
  • Variations in writing: Any change to the agreed scope/specification (a “Variation”) must be approved in writing (email or text is fine) before we proceed, unless urgent make-safe work is required.
  • Make-safe work: If unsafe conditions or urgent issues are discovered that could cause damage or risk, you authorise us to carry out reasonable make-safe work. This will be chargeable as a Variation where applicable.
  • Variations will be priced and agreed before continuing, where reasonably practicable.
  • Third-party delays: We are not responsible for delays caused by third parties (e.g., suppliers, skip hire, scaffolding, building control). Dates may shift accordingly.

4) Pricing & what it includes

Pricing will be agreed as either a fixed-cost Quote or an hourly/day-rate booking. Unless stated otherwise, labour pricing includes our time, tools, normal consumables (e.g., minor fixings), and business overheads (van, insurance, fuel, admin).

  • Hourly rate (minimum charge): £60 (covers the first hour)
  • After the first hour: charged in 30-minute blocks at £22.50 per half hour
  • Half day: £180 (up to 4 hours on site)
  • Full day: £350 (up to 8 hours on site)
  • Time beyond a half day / full day: charged at £22.50 per 30 minutes, unless agreed otherwise in writing

Travel, parking, permits, tolls and congestion/ULEZ (if applicable) may be charged at cost where incurred, unless stated otherwise in writing.

5) Materials, parts & waste

  • Materials may be supplied by you or by us, as agreed.
  • Materials paid in advance: Unless agreed otherwise in writing, all materials/parts must be paid for in advance before we place orders or collect items. This may be taken as a deposit or an upfront materials invoice.
  • Materials markup/handling: Where we supply materials, we add a 20–25% margin to the materials cost. This covers time spent sourcing and collecting items, trade accounts and ordering, vehicle/fuel time for collections, handling/admin, and the risk of delays/returns for unsuitable items (where applicable).
  • Title to materials: Materials supplied by us remain our property until paid for in full.
  • Special-order items are non-refundable unless the supplier accepts a return.
  • EPDM (customer change of mind): EPDM is commonly ordered/cut to suit the job. Once EPDM has been ordered and/or cut, we are unable to offer a refund for it if you change your mind. If you cancel after we have ordered EPDM, you agree to pay the cost of the EPDM and any associated delivery/collection costs already incurred.
  • Removed items & disposal: Any removed parts/materials remain your property unless you ask us to dispose of them. Disposal/removal is chargeable unless included in the quote.
  • Waste: Unless agreed in writing in advance, waste removal is the customer’s responsibility. If you ask us to remove waste, this will be charged separately because waste from building/maintenance work is treated as commercial waste and must be disposed of properly.
  • Waste removal/disposal is included only if stated in the quote. Otherwise it may be charged separately.

Note: Nothing in this section affects your statutory consumer rights.

6) Access, parking & working conditions

  • You must provide safe, reasonable access to the work area, including access to water/electricity where required.
  • Utilities & isolation: You authorise us to isolate/turn off water and/or electricity where reasonably required to complete works safely (with reasonable notice where practicable).
  • Please clear the work area in advance (personal items, fragile items, pets).
  • Parking & access charges: If parking is restricted, you are responsible for permits/visitor parking or any costs required to park lawfully and safely. Any parking costs, tolls, congestion/ULEZ or similar charges may be passed on at cost, unless stated otherwise in writing.
  • Waiting time: Where we are delayed due to access issues, keys, restricted working hours, or the site not being ready, waiting time may be chargeable.
  • Recording/CCTV: If there is CCTV or any audio/video recording in operation, you must inform us in advance. Any recording must be used lawfully and in line with applicable data protection/privacy rules.
  • Unsafe conditions / behaviour: We may refuse to work or stop work where conditions are unsafe, illegal, or where abusive/threatening behaviour occurs. Reasonable costs incurred (including time spent and call-out) may be chargeable.

7) Appointments, delays & cancellation

  • We will agree a date/time window. Arrival times can vary due to traffic, overrun, or emergency call-outs.
  • Weather may impact external work (including roofing, painting and certain groundworks). We may reschedule for safety/quality reasons.
  • Cancellations in writing: Any cancellation or reschedule request must be made in writing (e.g., email or text message) to be valid.
  • Cancellation/reschedule: Please give at least 48 hours notice to cancel or reschedule.
  • Cancellation within 7 days: If you cancel within 7 days of the agreed start date/time, we may charge a cancellation fee equal to 10% of the booked/quoted labour value for that job/visit (minimum £60) plus £60 to cover call-out/travel/admin time.
  • Late cancellation / no access: If you cancel with less than 48 hours notice, or we attend and cannot access the property/work area, we may charge a cancellation/call-out fee equal to 20% of the booked/quoted labour value for that visit (minimum £60) plus £60 to cover call-out/travel/admin time.
  • Materials already ordered: If materials have been ordered or collected, you are responsible for the cost of those materials (see Section 5).
  • Suspension/stop-work: We may suspend or stop work if invoices are overdue, access is not provided, instructions are unsafe/illegal, or conditions are not as agreed. Any time lost and costs incurred may be chargeable.

Note: Nothing in this section affects your statutory consumer rights.

8) Payment terms

  • Payment due on invoice: Unless agreed otherwise in writing, payment is due on invoice.
  • Payment method: Bank transfer or cash.
  • Deposits / booking fees: We may request a deposit or booking fee to secure dates or to cover materials. Where a deposit/booking fee is taken, it will be deducted from the final invoice. Deposits/booking fees are non-refundable where work is cancelled within 7 days of the agreed start date/time or where materials have been ordered/collected.
  • Materials paid in advance: Unless agreed otherwise in writing, materials/parts are payable in advance before ordering/collection.
  • For larger jobs, we may request a deposit and/or staged payments (especially where materials are ordered).
  • Late payment (commercial customers): For business-to-business work, we reserve the right to charge statutory interest and recovery costs on overdue invoices, where applicable.

9) Quality, making good & guarantees

We aim to complete work to a professional standard and leave the work area reasonably tidy. Minor dust/noise is unavoidable during building & maintenance work.

Reasonable match: Where works involve matching existing materials/finishes/paint, we cannot guarantee an exact match due to age, fading, batch variation and existing surface condition.

Completion & snagging: Minor snagging items do not constitute non-completion. Payment remains due in line with Section 8. Where appropriate, we will agree a reasonable return visit to address genuine snagging items.

Workmanship guarantee: We guarantee our workmanship for 12 months from completion, subject to the exclusions below. Materials/parts are covered by the manufacturer’s warranty where applicable.

Reporting & access: You must notify us of any suspected workmanship issue within 14 days of first noticing it and allow reasonable access for inspection and remedy. If access is not provided within a reasonable time, this may affect the guarantee.

EPDM materials warranty: Any EPDM rubber roofing supplied by us is supplied with a 25-year manufacturer’s warranty, subject to the manufacturer’s terms and conditions and correct installation/maintenance requirements.

Guarantee exclusions include:

  • Pre-existing faults, hidden defects, water ingress from underlying structural issues, or issues caused by third-party work.
  • Damage caused by misuse, lack of maintenance, pests, severe weather, subsidence, or movement of the building.
  • Wear and tear or cosmetic changes consistent with age/use.

10) Electrical, plumbing & specialist works

  • We do not carry out gas work.
  • Electrical work is limited to tasks we are legally permitted to undertake. Where certification or specialist work is required, we will advise you to appoint a qualified professional.
  • We may refuse to work on unsafe or non-compliant installations.

11) EPDM roofing & external works

  • EPDM and external works depend on suitable substrate/structure. If rotten decking, poor falls, trapped moisture, or structural defects are discovered, additional work may be required (Variation).
  • We are not responsible for leaks or failures caused by underlying structural movement, hidden defects, or pre-existing water ingress not reasonably detectable at the time of quoting.
  • Weather conditions may require rescheduling to ensure safe installation and correct curing/bonding.

12) Liability

Nothing in these Terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any liability that cannot be excluded under law.

Subject to the above, our liability is limited to the value of the work carried out (or the amount you paid for the relevant part of the work), and we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses (such as loss of profit, loss of rent, or business interruption), except where required by law.

13) Customer-provided items & instructions

  • If you supply materials/parts, you are responsible for suitability and compatibility. We are not liable for defects in customer-supplied materials/parts.
  • No guarantee on customer-supplied materials: Where you supply the materials/parts, we do not provide any guarantee or warranty on those items or their performance. Any manufacturer’s warranty (if any) is between you and the supplier/manufacturer. Our 12-month workmanship guarantee applies to our labour only, and does not cover failures caused by unsuitable or defective customer-supplied materials/parts.
  • If you instruct us to proceed against our recommendation (e.g., to avoid necessary prep or repairs), we may ask you to confirm in writing and we cannot guarantee outcomes arising from that decision.

14) Photos & marketing

We may take photos for quoting, records, and quality control. We will only use photos for marketing (e.g., website “Before & After” gallery) with your permission, and we will avoid showing personal items or identifying details where possible.

15) Complaints & resolution

If you have any concerns, please contact us promptly so we can put things right. Where appropriate, we will arrange an inspection and agree a practical resolution.

16) Privacy

We handle personal data in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

17) Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England & Wales, and the courts of England & Wales will have exclusive jurisdiction.

18) Force majeure

We are not liable for delays or failure to perform our obligations where caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including severe weather, illness, supply chain disruption, accidents, or other unforeseen events.
